Gymify: One Membership, Many Gyms, Real Doors

Health club software where a member trains anywhere in the network and independent gyms monetize spare capacity, with check-in working through hardware the gyms already had installed. Multi location gym software and an app like classpass meet in the same product.

Ready to Ship a Marketplace MVP

Two sides, real payments and hardware that has to cooperate. Hygge scopes that build the way this one ran.

What the Gym Check In App Does

What each side gets, and the access control integration that makes a physical network work.

Member Mobile App

React Native for iOS and Android: subscription signup, home gym selection, visit history and payment management, built for someone standing at a door.

Partner Portal

Gym owners manage their profile, bank and payout details, visit logs and earnings, so the value of joining the network is visible without asking anyone.

Server-Side Visit Rules

Unlimited visits at the home gym, one visit a day at any other partner gym, with anti-abuse checks enforced on the server where they cannot be worked around.

Vendor-Agnostic Access Control

A pluggable provider layer with a certified production integration to the primary hardware vendor, including an on-premise bridge that connects outbound only, so no gym has to touch its firewall or set up a VPN.

Offline-First Check-In

Check-ins queue and sync through Amazon SQS with deduplication, so a gym with unreliable connectivity still records entries correctly.

Payments and Payouts

Stripe Billing for member subscriptions and Stripe Connect for weekly gym payouts, with a bonus rate paid to the member's home gym.

The Challenge

Members were locked into single-location memberships while independent gyms had spare capacity they could not sell. Reconciling cross-gym visits and payouts by hand does not survive contact with real volume. The hard part was physical. Door access had to work with hardware already installed across gyms that had each chosen a different vendor, and connectivity at some sites could not be relied on.

The founder had partner gyms informally onboarded and waiting, so a slow launch would have cost the network before it existed.

Our Solution

Hygge built the access-control layer as a pluggable provider interface, then certified a production integration with the primary hardware supplier including an on-premise bridge that only makes outbound connections. Check-ins were made offline-first from the start, queuing through SQS with deduplication, so a gym with a weak connection records entries correctly.

After launch, a second cloud-native access provider was added on the same interface, extending coverage to more than thirty additional lock brands without re-architecting anything.

Discovery to Retainer, Step by Step

Step 1 - Lean Discovery
A short discovery phase funded by a mobilization deposit, settling the visit rules, the payout model and the access-control approach before any build started.
Step 2 - Backend and Billing Foundation
The serverless AWS backend, the membership model and Stripe billing with the weekly payout flow to gym partners, built first so everything above it had somewhere to write to.
Step 3 - Member Mobile App
Join, find a gym, book a visit and get through the door from one phone screen, built for somebody standing at the entrance with one hand free.
Step 4 - Partner Portal
Gym owners see visits, revenue and payouts for their own site without calling support, which is what makes onboarding a partner a short conversation.
Step 5 - Admin Panel
Network-level control for the operator: partners, plans, pricing and the exceptions that come up daily across a multi-gym network.
Step 6 - Door Access Integration
Certified production integration with the primary access-hardware vendor, so entry works on readers the gyms already had installed.
Step 7 - The On-Premise Bridge
An outbound-only bridge, so a gym joins the network without its IT arrangements being touched and without a firewall change to negotiate.
Step 8 - Release, Second Provider and Handover
iOS to TestFlight and Android to internal testing, a second cloud-native access provider added on the same interface, full handover documentation delivered, and the project moved to a monthly retainer.

Solutions Built Into Gymify

Gymify is three Hygge products assembled into one network: the gym check in app, the marketplace connecting gyms to it, and the payout run that closes each week.

Fitness & Wellness App Development

The member app and the tooling a club runs on: signup, home gym selection, visit history and entry at the door, from one record. Access works from the phone a member already carries.

  • 30+Lock brands the same app opens
  • 1 bridgeReplaces firewall and VPN work at every gym
  • 3 monthsTo two apps, a partner portal and doors that open

Marketplace Development

A membership sold once and honored across every gym in the network, with each owner keeping their own profile, terms and visit log. Both sides read the same record of what happened.

  • 2 sidesMembers and gym owners on one visit record
  • 1 passOpens every club in the network
  • 1 portalWhere an owner manages profile, payouts and visits

Fintech & Payment Products

Visits become money owed. Earnings are calculated per gym from the visit log and paid out on a weekly schedule an owner can plan against.

Health Club Software: Frequently Asked Questions

Question mark iconHow does the app open a real gym door?
Through a provider layer that talks to whatever access-control hardware a gym already runs. The primary vendor integration is certified for production and uses an on-premise bridge that connects outbound only, so no gym has to open a firewall port or run a VPN.
Question mark iconWhat happens when a gym's internet drops?
Check-ins queue locally and sync through Amazon SQS with deduplication when the connection returns. The member gets in, and the visit is recorded exactly once.
Question mark iconHow are gyms paid?
Weekly, through Stripe Connect, with a bonus rate going to each member's home gym. Subscription billing runs through Stripe Billing on the member side, so both halves of the marketplace settle in one system.
Question mark iconHow were visit rules kept fair?
They are enforced on the server: unlimited at the home gym, one visit a day elsewhere, with anti-abuse checks that a client-side rule could never hold. Putting them server-side is what makes the economics work for partner gyms.
