AI Gift Recommendation Engine for Offra
The founder booked marketing campaigns for Black Friday. Each one waited on a specific feature. A late feature meant missing the only season a gift app sells in. Shopping search expects the buyer to know the product, and gift buyers rarely do. In a gift app, one wrong suggestion is the screenshot that travels. We built the AI gift finder in about a month, across three milestones. A language model turns a profile into search terms. Retrieval over real retailer listings returns products a buyer can order, inside the budget. Inappropriate categories are excluded whatever the input says.

Not Sure Your Build Lands Before the Season Does?
If your marketing is booked against features that are not built yet, we start with a map of what has to ship first. You get a proposal with the scope, team, timeline and cost.
Where Gift Search Failed the Buyer
Each problem cost the founder either a sale or the season.
Search Built for Someone Who Knows
Shopping search expects a product name. A gift buyer often knows the person better than the product.
Gifts That Do Not Exist
A model left to itself can suggest a charming gift that no retailer sells. That is worse than no answer.
Budgets Crowded Out
Expensive items pushed out the options that fit a modest budget. A perfect gift at three times the limit sells nothing.
One Wrong Suggestion
A gift app serves a general audience. One inappropriate result is the screenshot that travels.
A Season That Sets the Date
Black Friday and Christmas set the deadline. Marketing campaigns were already booked against specific features.
Keyword Matching Hit Its Limit
Early results matched words in a listing. They missed what fits a person and an occasion.
The Challenge
Generic shopping search assumes the shopper knows the product. Gift buying starts from a person, and keyword matching does not bridge that gap. The deadline was the harder constraint. The build was tied to Black Friday and the Christmas window. The client's campaigns waited on specific features. A late feature would miss the only season that mattered.
A personalized shopping app with one season to prove itself, and campaigns already booked against its features.
Our Solution
We split the scope into three milestones. The AI engine came first. Accounts and connections followed, then profiles, occasions and notifications. The client always had something to test, and the features the campaigns needed landed early. The client ran weekly testing passes, so feedback arrived while there was time to act on it. Midway, retrieval over vector embeddings replaced keyword search. Results moved from technically relevant to giftable, and the milestone dates held.
Three milestones, the hardest part first, and weekly testing by the client.
How the AI Gift Finder Solves It
Each card answers one problem above.
Profile In, Search Terms Out
A language model reads interests, age, occasion and budget. It writes the search terms a thoughtful friend would use.
Only Products That Exist
Retrieval runs over real retailer listings, so every result is a product a buyer can order.
A Pricing Algorithm for Gift Budgets
The search range adjusts to the budget size. A modest budget still gets well-matched options.
A Safeguard Above the Model
Whole categories are excluded whatever the input says. It was an acceptance criterion from the first version.
The Hardest Part First
The AI engine shipped in the first milestone. The features the campaigns waited on landed before the season.
Vector Search Without a Slipped Date
Retrieval over vector embeddings replaced keyword matching midway. The milestone dates did not move.
What the Gift Recommendation Engine Does
The modules of this personalized shopping app, from a profile to a shortlist a buyer trusts.
Profile to Search Terms
A language model reads interests, age, occasion and budget, then generates the search terms.
Retrieval Over Real Listings
Search runs over vector embeddings of scraped retailer listings. Every result is a product that exists.
Budget-Aware Pricing
A dedicated pricing algorithm keeps results inside the stated budget.
Hard Content Safeguard
Inappropriate product categories are excluded regardless of the input. The rule was an acceptance criterion.
Accounts and Connections
Sign-in through Google and Facebook. Social connections track who each gift is for across occasions.
Email and Push Notifications
Reminders by email and mobile push. Gift buying runs on dates that arrive whether the user opened the app or not.
What Runs Without Anyone Pressing a Button
The rules the engine applies to every request.
Reminders Before Each Date
A push notification and an email go out before a saved occasion.
Budget on Every Result
The pricing algorithm filters each shortlist before the user sees it.
Safeguard on Every Request
Excluded categories stay out of results for any profile.
Affiliate Tags on Every Product
Each recommended product links to the retailer with affiliate tags. A purchase earns the platform revenue.
